Lady of justice holding scales.

If the coronavirus has taught us anything, it is the value of slowing down every once in a while. We live in a fast-paced world that does not often reward you for stopping to smell the roses. COVID-19 has changed all of that. We are all at home, spending more time with our own thoughts for company.

For those of us that survive this pandemic, life is never going to be the same. We may eventually go back to work, but we will always remember this time of sickness, fear, and daily life disruption.

Reflecting on the changes we are living through also highlights the things in our life that have remained constant. As attorneys, we are still fighting for justice. Still working to get our clients the compensation they deserve when they have been injured.

The Wheels Of Justice Are Still Turning

It is reassuring to know that deadlines may shift, and in-person meetings and court appearances may cease, but justice plods on. Slow. Steady. True.

If you have been injured, and are interested in seeking compensation, we urge you not to wait until the coronavirus crisis is over to seek justice. The courthouse doors are still open, even if the buildings themselves are literally closed.

Socially Distanced Service

The attorneys on the Levin & Malkin team continue to meet with current and potential clients, even though those meetings are now conducted via phone or secure video conference. We continue to appear in court, even if those appearances are not in-person. We continue to negotiate settlements, even when we are not sitting across the table from our adversaries.

Statutes of Limitations Continue To Run

In New Jersey, victims of a personal injury accident only have a certain amount of time to file a lawsuit holding the person responsible for the accident responsible. This period of time is known as the statute of limitations, and if a lawsuit is not filed before the statute of limitations runs, the victim is out of luck. No matter how seriously they have been injured, or how much evidence they have that proves the injury was the fault of another, the courthouse doors will remain closed.

We are afraid that the COVID-19 crisis will cause some victims to miss the opportunity to file a lawsuit seeking compensation for their injuries. We urge victims to come forward now instead of waiting until the pandemic is over to seek legal advice. There is no way of knowing how long the pandemic will last, and you should not risk losing your chance to seek justice.
